NO LONGER ASSIGNED (Highland Avenue, Broadway, Hillside Avenue, South Broadway, Main Street, North Highland Avenue, Conger Avenue, Stony Point Road, Liberty Drive)
LOCATION: Bergen-Rockland border (Palisades) to Rockland-Orange border (at Bear Mountain US 6-US 202 traffic circle) NOTES: NY 3 was established under the New York "Highway Law" of 1909. With the assistance of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, much of it was completed by 1914. New York State refused to complete NY 3 south of Piermont until New Jersey upgraded Sylvan Boulevard along the Palisades south to the Manhattan ferry (near the present-day George Washington Bridge). Between 1921 and 1923, New Jersey upgraded the connecting road, Sylvan Boulevard, which was designated NJ 18. In 1926, both NY 3 and NJ 18 were incorporated into US 9W.

Highland Avenue, Broadway, Hillside Avenue, South Broadway, Main Street, North Highland Avenue, Conger Avenue, Stony Point Road, Liberty Drive
LOCATION: Bergen-Rockland border (Palisades) to Rockland-Orange border (at Bear Mountain US 6-US 202 traffic circle) NOTES: Prior to 1926, US 9W was comprised of NY 3 and NJ 18. In Nyack and South Nyack, northbound US 9W traffic travels along South Broadway and Main Street, while southbound US 9W traffic travels along Hillside Avenue, forming a "south service road" for the New York State Thruway (I-87 and I-287). Between Haverstraw and the Bear Mountain traffic circle, US 9W is multiplexed with US 202.

Orange Turnpike
LOCATION: Bergen-Rockland border (Suffern, at I-87 / I-287 interchange) to Rockland-Orange border (Sloatsburg) NOTES: In late 1993, the interchange between NY 17 and the New York State Thruway was reconfigured. Prior to the completion of I-287 through northern New Jersey, traffic for NY 17 exited at EXIT 15 on the Thruway. Today, EXIT 15 on the Thruway is for I-287 southbound. A new exit -- EXIT 15A -- has been built for local traffic using NY 17 and NY 59.

Chestnut Ridge Road, Main Street
LOCATION: Bergen-Rockland border (Chestnut Ridge) to Mount Ivy (at US 202) NOTES: In the 1930's and early 1940's, this route was known as NY 305. In the late 1940's, it was known as NY 94. The present NY 45 designation appeared along this route by the 1950's. According to Daniel Dey, there was to have been a limited-access Spring Valley Bypass built by NYSDOT. It was to run from New Square (at the corner of current NY 45 and Washington Avenue) to just south of the intersection of NY 59 and NY 306 in Monsey, culminating in a new Thruway (I-87 / I-287) interchange.

Orange Turnpike, Lafayette Avenue, Nyack Turnpike
LOCATION: Ramapo (at I-87, EXIT 15A and NY 17) to Nyack (at US 9W) NOTES: At one time, NY 59 included part of Main Street in Nyack. The presence of grade-separated interchanges at NY 304, Strawtown Road (CR 23), Western Highway (CR 15) and NY 303 hints that NY 59 may have been proposed at one time as a proposed toll-free alternative to the Thruway for local, limited-access traffic.

LOCATION: Bergen-Rockland border (Pearl River) to Congers (at US 9W) NOTES: At its southern end, NY 304 was originally routed along East Washington Avenue, Middletown Road (currently CR 33), Church Street and Main Street through Pearl River and Nanuet. In 1970, a 3.25-mile, limited-access bypass was completed between downtown Pearl River and NY 59A (West Nyack Road). Main Street, Monsey-Ladentown Road
LOCATION: Monsey (at intersection of NY 59 and CR 73) to Ponoma (at intersection of US 202 and CR 75) NOTES: The southern section of NY 306, Saddle River Road, was redesignated CR 73 by 1990. At the same time, the northern section of NY 306, Calls Hollow Road, was redesignated CR 75. Fifty years earlier, NY 306 extended even further north via Cedar Flats Road (currently CR 69) and Mott Farm Road (currently CR 118) to Tompkins Cove (US 9W). This northern routing of NY 306 was abandoned with construction of the Palisades Interstate Parkway split the route into two pieces.
